Dóra Uhrik is an eternal member of the Company of the Immortal
Founding member of Ballet Pécs, Dóra Uhrik, Kossuth and Liszt Award laureate Merited Artist has been selected to join this prestigious list of the greatest living artists in Hungary.
The idea of the Company of the Immortal was born in 1996 when the first eternal members were chosen among the most respected and most active participants of Hungarian theatre life. The project was initiated by the editors of a then popular cultural programme on the Hungarian Television. Every year only a couple of artists, opera singers, dancers are selected, whose footprints are moulded into the Pest Broadway in Nagymező Street, Budapest.
Jubilee Gala of the 50-year-old Ballet PécsBallet Pécs celebrates their 50th anniversary in 2010. One of the biggest event of the festive year is the Jubilee Gala, that is a tribute to the successful 50 years. The gala will be followed by a ball at Hotel Palatinus. Giselle in Regensburg, GermanyThe town of Regensburg in Germany has had a long-going relationship with Hungary. Regensburg also applied for the title of European Capital of Culture alongside with the town of Pécs. Ballet Pécs was invited by the town of Regensburg in order to develop the cultural co-operation between the two towns, similar in various aspects. Giselle was performed at the Theater am Bismarckplatz on 11 May with huge success! Tickets had been quickly sold and a full house was awaiting Ballet Pécs's Giselle in a theatre with almost 600 seats. The audience loved the performance, they applauded loudly, success was inevitable. Only a couple of days after the performance Mittelbayerische Zeitung praised Giselle on their website. The guest performance was sponsored by E.ON Hungária.
Szilvia Balássy - Best Female Dancer of 2009
The National Dance Theatre and the Hungarian Dancers' Association have organized a gala on World Dance Day, the biggest celebration of dance art for years now. The most prestigious professional awards are given to the best Hungarian dancers every year on 29th April. This year Szilvia Balássy was given the award of "Best Female Dancer of the Year" at the gala first held in the town of Pécs. We are really happy and proud, because many artists related to Ballet Pécs were awarded this year, among them Mária Bretus, founding member of Ballet Pécs, who was given the "Lifetime Achievement Award".
Harangozó Award for Balázs VinczeBalázs Vincze, ballet director was awarded the prestigious Harangozó Gyula Award by the minister of culture and education on 15th March.
Ballet Pécs at the Sarajevo Winter FestivalThe Sarajevo Winter Festival is the largest cultural event held in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Its organisation could not be prevented even by the war, so it has become the symbol of freedom, creativity and the coming together of different cultures. We performed Bolero and Unreachable territories at the WAR Theatre on 22nd February.
Opening ceremony of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture Programme
The European Capital of Culture programme began on 10 January 2010 with an opening ceremony in Széchenyi Square. The all-day cavalcade of the opening ceremony of the Pécs2010 European Capital of Culture programme was build upon the basic values of its events – openness, receptive attitude, the interactive force of tradition and innovation as well as civil communities – presenting a wide range of festive and theatrical programmes. The opening event also emphasized cooperation with the other two capitals of culture, Essen in the Ruhr Region and Istanbul, which will be decisive for the programmes of the entire year. The programme of the ceremony introduced certain essential happenings from the history of Pécs through a wide-scale production by the cooperation of Pécs artists, famous people and hundreds of students. Ballet Pécs, the ambassador of the Pécs2010 - ECC Programme was among the performers of the opening ceremony.
The Dance of the Cranes – technology meets art in the European Capital of Culture
The European Union awarded Pécs the prestigious European Capital of Culture title on 13 November 2006. The city has celebrated the illustrious event annually but this year’s jubilee is the most remarkable; people in Pécs can take 5 public squares in possession and they could enter and look around the construction sites of the investments in the framework of an open day that finished with a spectacular show. The Dance of the Cranes was an amazing improvisational production; musical and light show performed by Ballet Pécs and the Cranes at the building site of the future concert hall and conference centre on 13 November 2009.
Ballet Pécs in ParisBallet Pécs, the ambassador of the PécsECC Programme is going to perform Chance Operation at the Hungarian Institute in Paris on 12 December. This unique improvisational production is part of the Café de la Danse programme series of the Institute.
Prima Prize for Ballet Pécs!The Baranya County Organization of the National Association of Hungarian Entrepreneurs has awarded the Prima Prize for Ballet Pécs in 2009. The gala ceremony took place on 30 October 2009 at the County Hall.
